How well do the teeth whitening trays at the dentist work?
Dog_luver2007 asked:
I am going to get my teeth whitened and my dentist recommended this. Does anyone know how many shades (on average) this whitens your teeth??? I am not getting the kind of trays that are cheap from the store.. I am getting the ones @ the dentist. Thanks in advance!
P.S. I really need to know soon

The dentist will do it at the office and then he keeps the trays for you with your name on them so that when you need to get them whitened again they don’t have to make new trays. Your teeth will get very white depending on how badly they are stained but you will look good. The dentist will not send the trays home with you though he will do this at the office.

I got trays made and whiten my teeth overnight.. with about a week of using they are noticably whiter, and the good thing about this is you can get them as white as you want then stop, or continue if you want.
I don’t exactly know how many shades, probably a couple becaues it is definetly noticable! :] It’s different for everyone though, because those with smoking stains or coffee stains can have much more dramatic results than those without them.

They are good trays. You should have had an appointment with the assistant or dentist taking impressions to fit your custom bleaching trays.
The shade change is different for everyone. There’s no real average, sorry. If you are committed to following your dentist’s advice post-treatment, then it should work very well for you.
In our office, we do send the trays home with the patients. The initial in-office bleaching treatment is a “booster” bleaching. It accelerates the bleaching process to begin the whitening. You will see a difference as soon as you get out of the chair. The trays you use at home will enhance the treatment.
The Golden Rule: if the food you want to eat will stain a white shirt, it will stain your teeth in the first 72 hours after the in-office bleaching!!
Make sure to ask your dental professional for both written and oral instructions for post-treatment.
P.S. Sensitivity may be a side effect, discuss this with your doctor at length.
